Dr. Alessi Cowan specializes in metabolic physiology, mitochondrial medicine, and light biology.
She obtained a PhD from Josh Rabinowitz’s lab at Princeton University. Her research comprised two primary focuses:

1) quantitative characterization of the fates of the major circulating nutrients supporting central carbon metabolism, nutrient preferences across tissues, and the impact of divergent dietary inputs (high carb versus ketogenic diet) on these features

2) pharmacokinetic assessment of the major circulating nutrients to gain a fundamental understanding of metabolite distribution and how this distribution varies in response to different physiological, pathological, and pharmacological inputs

Her current research focuses on light and circadian biology and their roles in the regulation of mitochondrial function, aging, chronic disease, and performance optimization.
