The MitoPOD™ emits three wavelengths: 660nm (red), 810nm (NIR), and 830nm (NIR). These were selected from the peak action spectra of cytochrome c oxidase — the primary photoreceptor in mitochondria. 660nm targets superficial tissue and skin. 810nm penetrates deepest into muscle and joint tissue and is the most studied NIR wavelength for systemic effects. 830nm bridges both, supporting deep tissue and skin simultaneously. The combination delivers comprehensive photobiomodulation from skin surface to deep tissue in a single full-body session.

TriChip™ technology means each of the MitoPOD™'s 2,320 LED diodes contains three independent chips rather than one — giving you 6,960 LED chips total. In a full-body device this matters enormously because it eliminates dead zones. Single-chip designs create uneven light distribution across a large mat surface. TriChip ensures every square inch of the pod delivers precise, independent wavelength coverage, so the treatment you receive on your back is as complete as on your front.

The 67/33 NIR-to-red split reflects the clinical evidence base. Near-infrared wavelengths (810nm, 830nm) penetrate significantly deeper into tissue than red light — reaching muscle, joint, and circulatory tissue that red light alone cannot access. Saunas and infrared sauna mats work primarily through heat — raising core body temperature to induce perspiration and cardiovascular response. The MitoPOD™ works through photobiomodulation — specific wavelengths of light absorbed by mitochondria to trigger cellular energy production, not heat. The mechanisms are entirely different. Infrared sauna mats typically use far-infrared (FIR) wavelengths above 3,000nm; the MitoPOD™ uses 660nm, 810nm, and 830nm — clinically studied wavelengths in the visible red and near-infrared range. They can complement each other but are not substitutes for one another.

Unfold the MitoPOD™ on a flat surface — floor, bed, or massage table. Lie directly on the pod with bare skin against the panel surface for maximum light delivery. Sessions of 10–20 minutes are recommended, once or twice daily. Use the full 1–100% brightness control to start at a lower intensity and build up as your body adapts. The pod's 30 mW/cm² irradiance at surface contact means sessions are shorter than with panels used at a distance. Consistency over time is more important than session length.

The MitoPOD™ unfolds flat to 62" x 54" — large enough to lie fully on. It is designed to be used as a mat you lie on, maximising contact between the LED surface and your body for direct light delivery without distance loss. Some users fold the edges up around the sides for additional coverage. The flexible design accommodates different body sizes and usage configurations.

We do not recommend using the MitoPOD™ in a sauna or any high-heat, high-humidity environment. Regular exposure to extreme heat and moisture can degrade the LED components and reduce the lifespan of the device. The MitoPOD™ is designed for standard indoor home or travel environments at normal ambient temperatures.

Yes. The MitoPOD™ is an FDA Class II registered over-the-counter medical device. When used as directed it may provide temporary relief of minor muscle and joint stiffness, temporary increase in local blood circulation, support for healthy skin, and relaxation and recovery support. These are general wellness claims consistent with FDA OTC Class II registration. The device is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition.

The MitoPOD™ is a plug-in AC device, so like all AC-powered devices it generates some magnetic field. At the surface usage distance our plug-in devices have been tested with commercial-grade EMF measuring equipment and produce magnetic fields ranging from 0.0mG to approximately 0.5mG above ambient levels. To put this in context, the highly conservative BioInitiative Report recommends a 1.0mG limit for 24/7 exposure for pregnant women and children — and ICNIRP sets a general public limit of 4,000mG. The MitoPOD™ generates no electric field on the panel surface and no RF (radio frequency) emissions — it contains no Bluetooth or WiFi. All Mito Red Light panels use specialized LED power drives to eliminate flicker.

Red and near-infrared light therapy is well tolerated by most people. We recommend consulting your physician before use if you are pregnant, have active cancer, are taking photosensitising medications, or have a medical condition directly over the area of intended use. Do not use directly over the eyes — keep eyes closed or use protective eyewear during sessions. Do not use on implanted electronic devices. Children should use under adult supervision.
