Red Light Therapy Devices

Red light therapy uses clinically studied wavelengths of red and near-infrared light: 630nm, 660nm, 810nm, 830nm, and 850nm. Scientific studies demonstrate that these wavelengths of light have unique properties including acting on the mitochondria in our bodies. Used regularly at home, RLT supports a wide range of wellness goals.

Mito Red Light devices are precision engineered. Select panels and devices are certified to IEC 60601 (medical grade) and all panel designs are independently third-party tested for power output and wavelength accuracy, so you know exactly what you're getting. HSA/FSA eligible. Free US shipping

Red Light Therapy Devices: FAQs

How does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy delivers specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to your cells, where they are absorbed by the mitochondria, the energy-producing structures inside every cell. The light supports the mitochondrial electron transport chain, which increases production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the cell's energy currency.

With more energy available, cells can carry out repair and their normal functions more efficiently. Mito Red Light panels emit clinically studied wavelengths, including 660nm (red) and 850nm (near-infrared), to support this mitochondrial response in skin, muscle and joint tissue.

What is the difference between red and near-infrared light?

Red light therapy uses two complementary types of light that reach different depths in the body.

Red light (620 to 700nm) is visible and works mainly at the skin's surface, where research links it to collagen production and skin health. Mito Red Light panels use 660nm as their primary red wavelength, one of the most studied wavelengths.

Near-infrared light (700 to 1100nm) is invisible and penetrates deeper, reaching muscle, joints and tendons. It is the wavelength most studied for muscle recovery and joint comfort. Mito Red Light panels use 850nm as their primary near-infrared wavelength.

Every Mito Red Light panel emits both red and near-infrared light at the same time, so one session covers surface and deeper tissue. Learn more about red vs near-infrared light therapy.

What size red light therapy panel do I need?

The right panel size depends on which areas of the body you want to cover and how much time you want each session to take.

For the face, neck or a single joint, a compact panel such as the MitoPRO 300 or MitoPRO 500 delivers focused light to a smaller area and works well on a desk or tabletop.

For the full torso, back or several areas at once, a full-body panel such as the MitoPRO 1500 or MitoMEGA covers more of the body in each session, which cuts total session time.

As a general guide: if your main goal is skin, a compact panel is enough. If your goals include muscle recovery or whole-body wellness, choose the largest panel in your budget.

Which red light therapy device should I buy?

The best red light therapy device depends on your primary goals, the area of the body you want to treat, and whether portability or maximum power is more important to you.

For most people, a full-sized red light therapy panel is the best investment. Panels deliver the highest irradiance, the widest coverage area, and the longest lifespan. Mito Red Light panels use dual-chip LEDs at 660nm and 850nm for simultaneous red and near-infrared delivery.

If you are new to red light therapy, the MitoPRO series is the recommended starting point, choose the largest size within your budget. If portability is a priority, Mito's flexible and handheld devices offer convenience without sacrificing clinical wavelengths. For the face, the MitoGLOW LED mask is FDA-cleared to treat full-face wrinkles.

How often should I use a red light therapy panel?

For most goals, regular sessions of about 10 to 20 minutes per area, several times a week, are a common starting point. Red light therapy builds over time, so consistent use over weeks tends to matter more than long single sessions.

For skin, many clinical protocols use around 5 sessions a week of 10 to 15 minutes, 6 to 12 inches from the panel. For muscle recovery, sessions after exercise or on rest days are common. More is not always better, because light therapy has an effective dose range.

New users can start with 3 to 5 sessions a week and adjust from there. Always follow your device's instructions.

What wavelengths should a red light therapy device have?

The two most clinically validated wavelengths for red light therapy are 660nm (red) and 850nm (near-infrared). The majority of published photobiomodulation research uses wavelengths within the 630–680nm and 800–880nm ranges, with 660nm and 850nm being the most frequently studied specific wavelengths.

660nm targets surface tissue, it is absorbed most efficiently by skin cells, collagen structures, and hair follicles. 850nm penetrates deeper, reaching muscle, joint, and bone tissue.

Devices that emit both wavelengths simultaneously deliver surface and deep-tissue benefits in a single session, which is why dual-wavelength panels are the clinical standard. All Mito Red Light panels emit both 660nm and 850nm at independently optimized power levels.

Are Mito Red Light devices FDA-registered or FDA-cleared?

Mito Red Light is registered with the FDA, and our devices are listed with the FDA. Registration and listing are not FDA review, clearance or approval of a device.

MitoGLOW is FDA-cleared (510(k) K221775) to treat full-face wrinkles.
